Constant change and a tiny step.

Finally a breathing space, realization during these period is that changes are constant , changes never change.  Little steps taken for a healthy environment can also make a better difference. Milk packets:          Recently I came across few articles and posts , that opening the milk packets without cutting off the tip  and just having a slit without separating  the small piece can reduce the number of small plastics entering the soil which never gets decomposed. Karnataka has encouraged citizens in this method. This can be used in any plastic covers we use in our day to day lives.           I hope we could implement this small step.            Comment on if you got any more ideas

Styrofoam, an other Green Villain

We were focused on Single-use plastics, we totally failed to look at yet another Villain. Have you ever come across white-colored,  sponge-like cups, plates, or any packaging material? This could be popularly seen in many functions as a weightless, single-use material, but easily torn apart or broken into.  Got what the material is?. It is styrofoam. When the name styrofoam is simply googled. The terms that catch the eyes are Non-biodegradable and Non -recyclable. The second line highlights the decomposable time to be 500 years.

These materials are very popular on public occasions without the knowledge of their characteristics. So if you are very well aware of single-use plastics and think that Styrofoams could be an alternative, no it is a big red signal. We have been unknowingly using wax-coated styrofoam as a teacup in tea/ Coffee shops. The disadvantages these materials hold are grave some

This styrofoam is petroleum-based non-degradable but sensitive to light, gets degraded into small pieces of its polystyrene which is simply plastics, they never go away decomposed or degraded from the phase of the earth, very similar to plastics, they get ended up in landfills and water regions causing pollution.

Styrene and Benzene, which are the certified hazardous chemicals and which has well known cancer-causing agents are the significant source for Styrofoam manufacturing. Styrofoam is popularly used in the food industry, these hazardous substances obviously get leached into the food and beverages. Popular health risks of the materials are cancer associations, mental health issues like depression inducers, neurological issues, etc.

Styrofoam containers

This article presented a brief introduction to Styrofoams. Let's not act unaware of this serious issue and take steps to say no. If you are a Go Green person, bring those people around you to say No to these materials. Attributes to my best friend and a reader on shedding a light on this topic.
