Constant change and a tiny step.

Finally a breathing space, realization during these period is that changes are constant , changes never change.  Little steps taken for a healthy environment can also make a better difference. Milk packets:          Recently I came across few articles and posts , that opening the milk packets without cutting off the tip  and just having a slit without separating  the small piece can reduce the number of small plastics entering the soil which never gets decomposed. Karnataka has encouraged citizens in this method. This can be used in any plastic covers we use in our day to day lives.           I hope we could implement this small step.            Comment on if you got any more ideas

Know the Compostable Bioplastics

There are certain group of bioplastics known as Compostable plastics. They can be degraded into compostable materials that get broken down into carbon dioxide, water, inorganic mass, and other biomass with no residues left behind. The standard decomposable time rate is 90-180 days for 60% of the bioplastics.

For the product to be approved as compostable bioplastic, it must pass the rules of ASTM D6400 standard:

  • They must disintegrate physically that it cannot be distinguished.

  • They must be readilly consumed by microbes.

  • The degarded compost must not have any negtive impacts on plant growths

The testing is done by Biodegradable Product Institute (BPI), which verifies if the product is verified for certification.

Home composting is also a wide option for these bioplastics, not just industrial composting.
